Tania Goossens has been appointed Resident Representative and Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Madagascar. Her appointment comes at a key time, as the country faces growing nutritional challenges, exacerbated by the effects of climate change.
Prior to her assignment, she led WFP operations in Guatemala and Peru, implementing food security and resilience initiatives. Her expertise, acquired through various missions in Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, includes the fight against child malnutrition through the REACH programme.
Under her leadership, WFP will implement its Country Strategic Plan 2024-2028, with a priority on improving access to food, strengthening social safety nets and supporting vulnerable populations.
« I am honoured to take over the leadership of WFP in Madagascar at a time when our collaboration with the government is more essential than ever », she said. Her mandate promises to be crucial in meeting the urgent food needs of the population.
