Veemal Gungadin named African AI leader at the Africa Tech Festival Awards

Veemal Gungadin, CEO of Mauritius Telecom (MT), has been named a finalist in the AI Leader of the Year category of the Africa Tech Festival Awards 2025. This recognition highlights his experience and his major role in the development and promotion of artificial intelligence across Africa.

Mauritius Telecom is also nominated in two other prestigious categories: Telco of the Year and Fintech Innovation of the Year, confirming its leadership in digital technology and innovation on the continent. Under Veemal Gungadin’s leadership, the operator has pioneered numerous technological solutions that strengthen its position as a key player in the African telecom sector.

The awards ceremony, to be held on November 12, will bring together the world’s leading technology companies. Mauritius Telecom invites the public to vote to support its ambitions and “bring home these distinctions.”

“These nominations reflect our strategic vision and commitment to digital innovation and artificial intelligence in Africa,” said Veemal Gungadin. The latter added that this continental recognition values our work and strengthens our desire to move Africa forward on the path of technological transformation.
