Djibrilla Issa appointed to the World Bank for West Africa

Djibrilla Issa has been appointed Division Director for Senegal, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia at the World Bank. Based in Dakar, he will be responsible for a regional portfolio of approximately $6 billion, aimed at supporting the economic and social transformation of these countries.

A Nigerian national, Issa joined the World Bank in 2001 as a financial sector specialist. Over his more than 20-year career, he has held several senior positions in various regions, developing recognized expertise in development policy, finance, and competitiveness. Prior to this appointment, he was Sector Director for Finance, Competitiveness, and Investment for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, where he led reforms to strengthen the business environment and support inclusive growth in complex economic contexts.

In his new role, Djibrilla Issa will coordinate the World Bank’s actions with governments, financial partners and private actors, focusing on strategic sectors such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, digital connectivity and human capital development.
