Tourism: Mauritius and South Africa seal a strategic partnership

Future-Looking Cooperation

A Memorandum of Understanding now unites the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of South Africa in the tourism sector.

The signing, which took place on Wednesday, May 13, in Durban, was one of the highlights of the regional meeting held from May 11 to 14 with several African officials. The Republic of Mauritius participated in the ceremony through its Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval. On the South African side, the Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, signed alongside her Mauritian counterpart. This initiative marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement aims to strengthen the exchange of expertise in several strategic areas. These include medical tourism, cruise tourism, and sustainable tourism. The two nations also intend to share best practices in the planning and development of tourism projects.

The memorandum also provides for facilitating the movement of visitors between Mauritius and South Africa. The objective is to encourage travel and stimulate tourism-related economic activity. The text also mentions vocational training, technical assistance, and the exchange of tourism data.

During the ceremony, Patricia de Lille emphasized the strength of the ties between the two countries. She expressed her confidence in a gradual strengthening of this cooperation in the years to come.
