The company provides aid and reconnects Toamasina
An Airtel Madagascar delegation, led by its Managing Director Anne Catherine Tchokonté, visited Toamasina on March 6, 2026, to support the communities affected by Cyclone Gezani.
During this visit, the company distributed food and essential supplies in collaboration with local authorities and disaster management organizations. As part of this initiative, 500 households received assistance through the National Bureau for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC), while another 600 households received support through the Toamasina Urban Municipality and the Ambolomadinika Fokontany (village) of plot 1321. In addition, 100 emergency kits were distributed at the Farafaty site (Bassin-drano), where Airtel infrastructure is located. In total, more than 1,200 households received direct support.
The cyclone caused significant damage in Toamasina, affecting up to 75% of the city and destroying homes, healthcare facilities, and essential services. In response, Airtel Madagascar combined humanitarian aid with the rapid restoration of communication services.
“Our action ranges from emergency relief to human reconstruction. We want to act with transparency and a concrete impact for the affected families,” stated the CEO. She commended the commitment of the network teams: 96% of the infrastructure has been restored, ensuring essential connectivity for residents and businesses.
