A New Step for Digital Finance in Madagascar
As part of Airtel Money’s strategy to strengthen financial inclusion in Madagascar, the company officially launched its MBanking service in partnership with BGFIBank.
The launch ceremony took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Airtel Money’s headquarters in Antananarivo, in the presence of representatives from both institutions. This new service was designed to meet users’ needs for simplicity and speed. It allows for easier transactions by directly linking banking services and mobile money, facilitating money transfers anytime, anywhere.
Specifically, MBanking connects Airtel Money accounts with BGFIBank accounts. Customers who already have both accounts automatically benefit from the service, without any additional steps. The goal is to make financial services more accessible and convenient for everyday use.
Thanks to this system, users can transfer money from their bank account to their Airtel Money wallet via the BGFI Mobile app, instantly and securely. Users can also send money from their Airtel Money account to their bank account using the USSD code 4365#, a simple solution even without internet access. Integration of the service into the My Airtel app is also planned soon to further enhance the user experience.
Furthermore, Airtel Money becomes the only mobile money service integrated into the BGFI Mobile app, an exclusive feature of this partnership.
This launch is part of the ongoing collaboration between the two countries, initiated last year, with the goal of offering smoother financial solutions better suited to users’ needs. According to Heritiana Andrianalisoa, Managing Director of Airtel Money Madagascar, “this mobile banking service aims to bring financial services closer to the population.”
