University of Antananarivo Receives 370 Solar Panels and 60 Batteries
The University of Antananarivo has received 370 solar panels, each with a capacity of 590 W, 40 6 kVA inverters, and 60 7 kWh batteries. This equipment, donated by the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic, now covers up to 85% of the campus’s electricity needs.
Presented on December 7, 2025, in Ambohitsaina, the project aims to improve working and studying conditions at the university. Thanks to this new energy source, activities can continue uninterrupted, even during power outages.
In addition to the solar installations, the University also received 1,500 streetlights to improve lighting in buildings and outdoor spaces. Many rooms were previously dark or poorly lit. These new facilities will therefore ensure greater security and comfort on campus.
To protect and monitor the proper functioning of this equipment, the Presidency also donated 144 surveillance cameras. The university’s administrative management will also be facilitated by the donation of 100 computers.
During his visit to the site, the President of the Refoundation, Michaël Randrianirina, reiterated that all universities in the country will benefit from the same type of equipment. This program covers both energy and water supply. “The objective is to encourage the use of renewable energy in Madagascar,” he added.
The government intends to go further by installing solar panels in ministries and administrative offices. The Iavoloha Palace will be equipped with 500 kW panels starting next week.
