ANTSIRANANA: A second wind farm project is under construction

Strengthening Energy Supply

The Diana region continues its energy transition with the launch of a second wind power project in Antsiranana.

This new infrastructure, currently under construction, aims to boost electricity production in northern Madagascar while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Following the commissioning of the region’s first wind farm, which demonstrated the value of harnessing the exceptional wind potential of Antsiranana Bay, this new project marks a further step in diversifying the local energy mix. Authorities and project partners emphasize that this initiative will contribute to improving the stability of the electricity supply, which is often challenged by increasing demand linked to the region’s economic and demographic development.

The ongoing work includes the installation of new wind turbines and the strengthening of the infrastructure connecting to the national grid. Once operational, this new power plant is expected to produce several megawatts of renewable electricity, thus powering more homes, businesses, and public services.

Beyond its energy impact, the project is also generating local economic benefits. Temporary jobs have been created for the construction work, while the future operation of the facility will require specialized technical skills. Project managers also highlight the environmental benefits, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the decreased use of fuel-powered generators.

This new achievement confirms Madagascar’s commitment to developing its renewable natural resources to meet the country’s energy challenges. In a region renowned for its favorable climate for wind energy, Antsiranana is gradually establishing itself as a leading hub for clean energy and sustainable development, paving the way for further investments in the renewable energy sector.
