Moroni: School construction projects making progress despite challenges

Minister of Education on the Ground

School construction and renovation projects in Moroni are progressing despite some delays.

On November 11, 2025, the Minister of National Education, Bacar Mvoulana, visited several sites to check on the progress of the work. He toured the Saïd Mohamed Cheikh High School, the Mbueni Middle School, and the Moroni Sanfil Public Primary School, accompanied by officials from his ministry and representatives of the Bundo la malezi project.

Mvoulana took advantage of this visit to discuss solutions with contractors to expedite the completion of the schools. “We chose to visit three of the forty-six schools involved in the project to closely monitor the progress of the work and share best practices,” he explained.

The Bundo la malezi project goes beyond simply constructing buildings. The project also includes training for teachers and educational supervisors, as well as support for national examinations through the National Office for Examinations and Competitions. These actions aim to improve the quality of education while modernizing school infrastructure.

The minister also emphasized the historical role of the Saïd Mohamed Cheikh High School, considered an emblematic institution. “Many political and administrative figures in the country, including the President of the Republic, Azali Assoumani, graduated from this school,” he added.

The project coordinator, Nourdine Bourhane, mentioned several challenges encountered on the ground, including housing staff from foreign companies, managing students during construction, and coordinating classes with renovation work at the Mbueni middle school. He confirmed, however, that the keys to the schools should be handed over to the authorities within approximately thirteen months.
