Meeting the Growing Needs of the Sector
A new phase is underway in strengthening the technical education workforce in Madagascar.
A total of 250 newly recruited temporary teachers from the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training (METFP) are expected to be granted permanent positions in the civil service before the end of June. This integration marks the culmination of a recruitment process based on transparency and the recognition of professional experience.
The files of the selected candidates are currently undergoing expedited administrative processing through a “one-stop shop” system. This procedure, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Public Service, centralizes the necessary checks before the official appointment of the future civil servants. Its aim is to verify the conformity of documents, prevent irregularities, and ensure the security of the recruitment process.
According to officials at the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (METFP), the selection of temporary teachers was based on several criteria, including qualifications, seniority, age, teaching hours, and subject area. The Ministry maintains that it prioritized a fair and impartial process to select candidates who met the established requirements.
This permanent appointment represents a significant change for the teachers involved, some of whom had been working for several years under precarious employment status. Their entry into the civil service should offer them greater job security while bolstering staffing levels in technical schools across the country.
Following this initial phase, a new recruitment drive has already been announced. It is expected to involve another 356 people, including temporary teachers, graduates of the Higher Teacher Training College (ENS), as well as administrative and technical staff. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to meeting the growing needs of the technical and vocational training sector in Madagascar.
