Fuel crisis: new aid for professionals

The Region is multiplying measures

The rise in fuel prices continues to complicate the daily lives of transport professionals and households.

To address this situation, the Regional President, Huguette Bello, met with the inter-union group of transport operators on April 13. This meeting provided an opportunity to review the situation and discuss possible solutions.

Following the discussions, the Region decided to strengthen the measures already in place. After an initial reduction of 10 cents per liter for road transport professionals, an additional subsidy of 5 cents per liter will be granted for two months. This measure, however, depends on the participation of the Réunion Petroleum Products Company (SRPP), which has been asked to contribute to this collective effort.

Faced with the crisis, the Region and the transport operators are presenting a united front. The latter are asking the oil sector to also take its share of responsibility, in a context where prices remain high and weigh heavily on purchasing power.

Other measures were also announced to support the population. The price of a gas cylinder will remain at €18, despite a planned increase on May 1st. Furthermore, the price of subscriptions to the Car Jaune bus network will be halved for six months to facilitate daily travel.

Huguette Bello noted that oil companies generated an estimated €14 million in profits in 2024 within the region. The President believes these companies must contribute more to the ongoing efforts.
