AORTIC: Yosra Hamdi appointed Vice President for North Africa

Yosra Hamdi has been appointed Vice President of the African Organization for Cancer Research and Training (AORTIC) for the North Africa region.

A researcher at the Pasteur Institute of Tunis, she specializes in cancer genomics and precision medicine. Hamdi works in the Laboratory of Biomedical Genomics and Oncogenetics and has notably identified new BRCA mutations in Tunisia, thus contributing to improved management of hereditary cancers.

She also led the “Genome Tunisia Project,” a project aimed at creating a reference sequence of the Tunisian genome to strengthen personalized medicine in North Africa.

Recognized as an expert by the World Health Organization (WHO), Hamdi is a leading figure in biomedical research in Tunisia and Africa. The Tunisian Ministry of Health welcomed her appointment, which reflects Tunisian scientific expertise and its commitment to the fight against cancer. AORTIC, established in 1983, supports cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment across the African continent.
