Corneille Karekezi has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Alliance of African Multilateral Financial Institutions (AAMFI), succeeding Samaila Zubairu of the Africa Finance Corporation. This decision was made during the Council’s ninth meeting, held on the sidelines of the 39th session of the African Union in Addis Ababa.
Currently the CEO and Chairman of the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re), Dr. Karekezi brings extensive experience in reinsurance, finance, and African economic development. His expertise will enable AAMFI to strengthen cooperation among its members and promote African solutions for development financing.
Under his leadership, the Alliance plans to mobilize more African capital and support Agenda 2063. The meeting also marked the arrival of two new members: the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the Regional Maritime Development Bank (RMDB), strengthening the regional reach of the AAMFI.
