Traian Laurențiu Hristea has been appointed Representative of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) for the Indian Ocean region. He presented his cabinet letters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rafaravavitafika Rasata, on May 16, 2025, in Antananarivo.
A career diplomat, Hristea has extensive experience working at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European External Action Service. He led the European Union delegations in Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia, conducting strategic diplomatic activities in the areas of cooperation, governance, and development.
His appointment marks a new dynamic in relations between the OIF and the Indian Ocean states. Emphasis will be placed on promoting Francophone values, particularly the French language, cultural diversity, education, youth, and sustainable development.
