First bioclimatic airport building in a tropical environment
On March 15, 2024, Jérôme Flippini, the prefect of La Réunion, attended the inauguration of the new terminal at Roland Garros Airport. This terminal will be open to the public two weeks after the inauguration.
The construction works, financed by Europe, the French State, and the Réunion Region, amount to 65 million EUR. The new 13,200 m² terminal will accommodate 3 million passengers annually by 2030. The facility offers a panoramic view of the mountains, including the Piton des Neiges. This new infrastructure stands out for its bioclimatic system, allowing for entirely natural ventilation.
The new terminal at Roland Garros Airport features a stand for the Réunion Tourism Federation (FRT) and a shop for products. A second phase of work with additional parking is planned for 2025-2026. The program aims to enlarge the terminal and create a landscaped square between the buildings.
