Cable car in Madagascar : Passenger trials begin

3 minutes to connect Anosy to Soarano

Following two phases of technical trials, the cable car on the Anosy-Soarano line will now begin passenger transport trials.

The thirteen-day technical trial of the twenty seven cable car cabins on the Anosy-Soarano route concluded on June 17. The yellow water bottles previously used for testing will now be replaced by human passengers.

The Secretary of State responsible for New Cities and Housing, Gérard Andriamanohisoa, announced that passenger transport trials would start on June 19. To ensure compliance with European standards, foreign specialists will oversee the process in Madagascar.

Each cable car cabin can accommodate 10 people, allowing for the transport of 270 passengers per trip with all 27 cabins in operation. According to a technician, the journey between Anosy and Soarano will take approximately three minutes. At each station, attendants will be available to guide passengers and provide necessary information. Their role will include explaining steps such as purchasing tickets, stops, and other essential details.

For those interested in using this new public transport system, the official fare has not yet been announced. However, forecasts suggest that ticket prices will range between 3,000 and 5,000 MDG.
