Vezo Culture and Maritime Traditions in the Spotlight
The village of Belo-sur-Mer, 80 km south of Morondava, will host the second edition of the Botry-Soa Fahitse Festival from August 21 to 24, 2025.
This festival showcases Vezo culture and the locals’ expertise, particularly the traditional construction of dhows, handcrafted wooden sailing boats.
For five days, visitors will be able to discover the region’s magnificent landscapes: the Belo-sur-Mer Marine Park, Andravoho Island with its turquoise waters, the Manahy Dunes, home to pink flamingos, the Antsira salt flats, and the village of Menaky, known for its seaweed farming.
Cultural and sporting events will be organized throughout the event. The program includes demonstrations of pirogue building and sailing, dhow races, a beach soccer tournament, as well as shows and activities for all.
This gathering aims to promote Belo-sur-Mer as an important tourist destination on the west coast of Madagascar. This event also serves to showcase the region’s traditions and natural resources.
The organizers hope to welcome many Malagasy and foreign visitors, curious to discover Vezo culture and the beauty of the coastline. The Botry-Soa Fahitse festival is also a time for sharing and meeting between locals and visitors, in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
