Cancer: Madagascar commits to more accessible care

Government Facilitates Access for Malagasy Patients

As part of a long-term vision to strengthen the oncology sector in Madagascar, the Malagasy government is launching a new initiative to improve access to care and reduce the cost of cancer treatments.

This initiative addresses a pressing issue: some treatments can cost up to €70,000, an amount inaccessible to many patients. The Ministry of Health, headed by Dr. Magnana Monira, signed a strategic partnership with the Mpithi Holdings group, led by Dr. Nkanyiso Johnson Zwane. The signing took place on March 30 at the State Palace in Ambohitsorohitra.

In Madagascar, cancer remains a major challenge. Treatments are expensive, and many patients cannot afford proper care. This partnership aims to facilitate access to quality care while reducing expenses for patients and their families.

Among the planned actions, the installation of modern equipment in Antananarivo is a key priority. MRI machines, radiotherapy equipment, and other advanced technologies will allow for better diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Thanks to this infrastructure, patients will be able to receive treatment locally, without having to travel abroad.

The project is not limited to equipment. It also aims to strengthen the skills of healthcare personnel and improve the quality of care. The objective is to build a stronger and more efficient system in the long term.

The President of the Republic, Randrianirina Michaël, considers this project to be of paramount importance for the country. This initiative is part of a broader reform of the healthcare system, with the goal of making healthcare accessible to all.
