Friendship Translated into Concrete Actions
The Government of the Republic of Korea has released $100,000 in emergency aid to support the people of Toamasina affected by Cyclone Gezani.
This gesture of solidarity, intended for UN agencies operating on the ground, illustrates once again the sincere friendship and active cooperation between South Korea and Madagascar.
Foreign Minister Christine Razanamahasoa expressed the Malagasy government’s profound gratitude for this humanitarian contribution.
According to her, this aid demonstrates the close relationship between the two nations and reflects their shared commitment to strengthening diplomacy in service of life and development.
This matter was discussed during a meeting between the Minister and Park Ji-Hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Madagascar. The meeting reaffirmed the strong ties that bind the two countries, based on trust, solidarity, and the pursuit of shared progress.
The Minister commended South Korea’s continued support for the Malagasy government’s reconstruction efforts, reiterating that South Korea remains a strategic and exemplary partner for Madagascar. Beyond humanitarian aid, cooperation between the two countries also extends to education and research. Seoul has donated computer equipment worth USD 400,000 to five Malagasy national universities.
This support aims to strengthen students’ digital skills and modernize higher education infrastructure. The official handover ceremony is scheduled for March 2026 at the University of Antananarivo, in the presence of diplomatic and university officials.
