President Herminie’s Visit to the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre
In line with the Seychellois authorities’ commitment to strengthening the national health system and expanding international partnerships, President Dr. Patrick Herminie paid an official visit to Chennai, India.
The objective is to improve citizens’ access to specialized, high-quality medical care. During this visit, the Head of State visited the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, an institution recognized worldwide for its expertise in cancer treatment. This center uses proton therapy, a cutting-edge technology that allows for more precise treatment of tumors while reducing side effects. The Seychellois government is exploring the possibility of sending patients there for specialized care and collaborating on the training of medical staff.
The President was accompanied by the First Lady, Véronique Herminie, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Marvin Fanny. Together, they met with several Seychellois patients being treated in Chennai, including Dr. Lawrence Reginald. Herminie expressed her support and the government’s encouragement, reaffirming the State’s commitment to guaranteeing every Seychellois access to modern, humane, and accessible healthcare.
Furthermore, the Head of State met with the management of SIMS Hospital to strengthen cooperation in several areas: training, pharmaceutical supply, infrastructure modernization, and the development of telemedicine. A team of medical and technical experts from SIMS will travel to Seychelles next March to assess needs and propose a support plan for the national healthcare system.
Later, the delegation visited Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital, headed by Dr. Bala, a former practitioner in Seychelles. The President thanked him for his many years of service to the Seychellois people and discussed new forms of collaboration in the field of specialized dental and surgical care.
