Juan Diego Alonso takes the helm of the World Bank in Equatorial Guinea

Juan Diego Alonso has been appointed World Bank Group (WBG) Resident Representative in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the institution announced Tuesday. He will represent all WBG branches, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

Alonso’s mission will be to strengthen partnerships with the government, the private sector, civil society, and development partners. He will also lead and coordinate the WBG country team, while supporting the design and implementation of development programs in the country.

An Argentine national, Juan Diego Alonso joined the WBG in 2006. He has extensive international experience, having worked in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He is recognized for his expertise in country strategy development, economic and social analysis, and building multi-stakeholder partnerships.
