Virginia Messina has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA), at a time when African tourism is experiencing sustained growth.
According to eTurboNews (March 25, 2026), she brings significant international experience, notably gained at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), where she led initiatives related to public policy, sustainability, and relations with governments and the private sector.
Prior to her global career, Messina worked for the Mexican government and contributed to processes related to the G20 presidency, integrating tourism into international economic discussions. This background allows ATTA to strengthen its presence on the international stage and effectively coordinate its activities, events, and charitable initiatives.
This appointment comes at a favorable time: Africa welcomed nearly 81 million international tourist arrivals in 2025, an 8% increase compared to 2024, according to UN Tourism. The continent is now attracting travelers seeking sustainability, community experiences, and high-end safaris.
