UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Anthony Ngororano, originally from Rwanda, as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Madagascar, with the approval of the Malagasy government. This appointment takes effect on 1 March 2025.
Ngororano has over 20 years of experience in sustainable development. He was recently the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kenya and Mauritania. The new Coordinator has also held key positions at UNFPA and UN Women, including in Haiti and New York.
A former Senior Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Rwanda, he also worked for Citigroup N.A in Kenya and Tanzania. His career began as an economist at the Ministry of Finance in Uganda.
With masters degrees in development economics and international relations from the Universities of East Anglia and Sussex, as well as a masters in economics from the University of Edinburgh, obtained with distinction, Anthony Ngororano will bring his expertise to Madagascar.
