Road safety: 459 certified drivers on the RN4

No Fatal Accidents Since the Launch of the “Road Safety” Program

Road safety in Madagascar is improving. On February 6, the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, in collaboration with the Land Transport Agency (ATT) and with the support of JOVENA, awarded certificates to drivers trained under the “Road Safety RN4” program.

This training, conducted on the road linking Antananarivo to Mahajanga, enabled 459 drivers to obtain their certification. More than 76% of the transport companies operating on this route participated. Since the program’s launch, no fatal accidents have been recorded among the trained drivers—an encouraging result for road safety in the country.

The Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Juste Crescent Raharisone, praised the efforts made. “When we leave home in the morning, it is always with the hope of being able to return in the evening.” “Ensuring this safety is our collective responsibility,” he stated.

The “Road Safety” program aims to sustainably reduce road accidents, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 3.6, which aims to halve road traffic fatalities by 2030.

Following the RN2, the RN4 has thus become another success story. The Ministry now plans to extend this initiative to the RN7, in order to strengthen a culture of caution among drivers throughout the country.
