Air Transport : Madagascar Airlines rejoins IATA

Significant step for Madagascar Airlines

Seventeen new airlines are officially members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the year 2024. After being suspended in 2011 due to solvency issues, Madagascar Airlines is resuming its activities.

This integration into IATA marks a significant milestone for Madagascar Airlines. The Malagasy airline can regain its position on the international air transport scene thanks to this recognition by IATA, more than 13 years after its suspension.

According to IATA, « This integration will not only simplify the marketing of domestic flights by other airlines operating in Madagascar, but it will also allow customers to combine multiple airlines on a single journey and a single ticket ».  In other words, foreign tourists will now have the possibility to purchase tickets that include several connections for their travels in Madagascar.

To obtain IATA membership status, with all the associated rights and privileges, several steps must be followed. These include registering for the Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), undergoing an administrative review by the membership department, and paying an annual fee.

According to the general management of the Malagasy company, by combining this reintegration with the migration to Amadeus, Madagascar Airlines has increased its global visibility. This allows thousands of accredited agencies and all online sales sites to offer tickets for the national airline.
