The new Mapou post office officially opened

Modernization and e-commerce at the heart of the service

The Mapou post office currently serves 300 customers and 72 retirees, with the support of a team of two employees and two postmen covering Mapou, Labourdonnais, and Cottage.

For the past month, residents have been benefiting from a variety of services: parcel delivery, stamp sales, letter franking, mobile phone top-ups, and retirement pension payments.

On October 9, 2025, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation, Avinash Ramtohul, inaugurated the office on World Post Day.

The ceremony highlighted the modernization and decentralization of postal services, aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for the public. The move to the Mapou community hall, made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Rivière du Rempart District Council, has enabled the installation of a modern and accessible infrastructure.

The inauguration coincided with the launch of a First Day Cover and a commemorative stamp celebrating Mauritius’ participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. The post office simultaneously issued the stamp in Osaka, highlighting the country’s international visibility as part of the World Expo.

Avinash Ramtohul highlighted the strategic transformation of Mauritius Post. With the decline in traditional postal exchange and the growth of parcel delivery linked to e-commerce, the sector offers new opportunities to support local entrepreneurs. The Minister emphasized the need to bring services closer to citizens and to guarantee quality, speed, and reliability in every operation.
