La Digue welcomes a project of 12 affordable housing units

The government is laying the first stone of an expected project

Twelve affordable housing units will soon come out of the ground at La Digue. The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by the Minister of Territory and Housing, Billy Rangasamy, launched the construction site during an official ceremony.

The population, government representatives, students and residents took part in the event. The children of La Digue animated the meeting with poems and traditional dances. This festive atmosphere marked the beginning of a long-awaited project.

Minister Rangasamy reaffirmed the commitment of his department. The latter promised modern, accessible housing adapted to the needs of families. According to him, each such initiative contributes directly to social development and strengthens community cohesion.

The Head of State insisted on the government’s willingness to keep its promises. “Each new housing project reflects our commitment to providing dignity, security and a better quality of life for Seychellois families,” he said. The President added that the executive will continue its efforts on all the islands.

The launch of the construction site brought together several officials, including the principal secretary for housing and elected officials from the district. After the laying of the foundation stone, the guests attended the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, a group photo and a convivial moment around refreshments.
