A Strategic Meeting for Energy in the Comoros
Several meetings are being held with all stakeholders, including Anaden and the Comoros Geological Survey, to prepare for the 11th African Rift Geothermal Conference (Argeo-C11). This event will take place in Moroni, from October 19 to 24, 2026, at the People’s Palace.
This gathering is being organized by the Government of the Union of the Comoros, through the Ministry of Energy, Water and Hydrocarbons and the Comoros Geological Survey, with the support of the African Geothermal Association (AGA), the African Union Commission (AUC), the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA), and other international partners.
The organizing committee emphasizes the importance of this event for the country’s energy future. The conference will enable the Comoros to move towards energy independence, accelerate the transition to clean and sustainable energy, and promote investment in the renewable energy sector.
Hamza Hassani, acting head of the department in charge of studies and analyses of sedimentary basins, explains that the meetings aim to define the management of the conference platform. These sessions address the creation of an official website for online payments, the opening of social media accounts, and the organization of subcommittees responsible for communication and promotion of the event.
The committee faces several challenges, including technical, organizational, and financial ones. It must update the budget, identify sponsors, and secure the financial contribution from the government, which is essential to finalize certain aspects of the organization. International experts, including the Aga from Tanzania, as well as African institutions, are providing support.
Short training sessions are also planned during the conference to strengthen national geothermal expertise, facilitate knowledge transfer, and support the sector’s development at the local level.
Held every two years, the African Rift Geothermal Conference is considered Africa’s premier geothermal event. This forum brings together experts, academics, governments, financial institutions, NGOs, and local communities. The conference provides a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop innovative solutions for sustainable geothermal development across the continent.
