Key objectives of the 2025 budget
The Finance Commission organized hearings with state ministries and institutions ahead of the adoption of the 2025 finance bill in a general assembly.
During these discussions, Ibrahim Mohamed Abdourazak, the Minister of Finance, outlined the main objectives of the 2025 budget. The focus is on urban development, particularly in Moroni, Fomboni, and Mutsamudu, with plans to improve road infrastructure, waste management, and climate resilience.
Another priority is the construction of essential facilities for hosting the 2027 Island Games. According to the government, the success of this international event is critical for the Comoros’ visibility. The minister emphasized President Azali Assoumani’s commitment and his administration’s efforts to tackle the cost of living. The initiatives also target energy development, road protection, as well as advancements in education and healthcare. During the hearings, Deputy Zoubeir Mohamed Ahmed highlighted the priorities presented by the various ministries.
Moustoifa Hassani Mohamed, the Minister of Economy, detailed government measures aimed at mitigating the impact of the rising cost of living and addressing shortages of essential food supplies, particularly rice. He stressed the importance of optimizing supply processes and fostering international partnerships to maintain adequate stock levels.
