Seychelles Committed to Digital Education
The First Lady of Seychelles, Véronique Herminie, participated in the first summit of the global coalition “Building the Future Together,” held on March 24 and 25, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
The meeting, held at the State Department and then at the White House, brought together 45 First Wives around a common goal: improving children’s well-being through education and technology. The invitation came from the U.S. First Lady, Melania Trump.
During her address, Véronique Herminie emphasized the importance of education. She reiterated that every child deserves to grow up with dignity, opportunities, and a voice in society. She believes that education opens doors, while technology offers new possibilities.
This framework also highlighted the role of positive experiences in children’s lives. Discoveries, activities, and exchanges help young people better understand the world and build healthy relationships in adulthood.
Faced with the challenges of the digital age, the First Lady called for greater vigilance. She addressed the risks associated with online violence, particularly gender-based violence. She then proposed strengthening digital education for everyone: children, parents, teachers, and educators. The goal is responsible and safe use of digital tools.
The First Lady also emphasized the role of parents. Screens should not replace shared moments or family values. Technology should support children, not replace education and dialogue.
At the end of her speech, Véronique Herminie thanked Melania Trump for this initiative. The First Lady of Seychelles welcomed the creation of this coalition, which encourages exchanges and concrete actions in support of digital education.
The Seychelles continues to make progress in integrating digital technology into schools. This experiment attracted attention at the summit, where several companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft and Google presented their solutions.
