Raw materials : Mayotte sources from Madagascar

Mayotte relies on Madagascar for a steady supply of raw materials

The region of Mayotte, located in the northwest of Madagascar, is entering a phase of industrialization. The goal is to establish a processing industry to tap into European markets, which necessitates a steady supply of raw materials.

Nourdine Hakim, founder of Mayotte’s Green Fish Group, highlights the significance of agricultural and fishing collaboration with Madagascar. At the third edition of Madagascar’s International Trade Fair for Economic Players (SIAE), the head of the Mayotte delegation emphasized the importance of partnering with Madagascar to access European markets, asserting that this partnership is more advantageous for Madagascar than one with Paris.

Hakim pointed out that while they possess extensive knowledge of coffee and rice, consistent volume and supply are essential for penetrating global markets. “In this context, Madagascar is essential,” he added.

Madagascar, once the leading nation in the Indian Ocean, has the resources needed but has lost its reputation. With its limited land area, Mayotte relies on Madagascar for a steady supply. Currently, twelve framework agreements between the Consulate General of Mayotte and Madagascar facilitate this collaboration. The strategic partnership, reinforced by the SIAE, promotes trade and economic development in the region.
