The National Competition Recognizes Local Talent
In every French department, the Economic Excellence Award competition brings together final-year STMG students each year.
In Mayotte, 178 students participated this year, spending four hours analyzing a ten-page document on the role of savings. They cross-referenced the documents and drew upon their knowledge before presenting their work to a jury of teachers and professionals.
Faïza Ali Ousseni, from the Kahani high school, won first place. For her, this prize showcases her school in a new light. “When people talk about my high school, they often mention violence and delinquency. Today, I’m showing something else,” she explains.
Elina Hassan, from the Petite-Terre high school, took second place. Her work was praised for its rigor and thoroughness. A final-year student in Human Resources and Communication, she aspires to work in banking or insurance. Hassan also wants to change the image of the STMG (Science and Technology of Management and Business) track. “We often hear that STMG is for lazy people. I want to show that we work just as hard as students in general academic tracks,” she explains.
El-Amine Madi, from the Chirongui high school, completes the podium. He didn’t expect to be among the best, but this prize boosts his confidence. “I don’t consider myself the best,” he repeats, before adding that this distinction makes him and his parents proud.
The competition is part of a broader financial education initiative. Students learn practical concepts about the daily management of a bank account and the use of payment methods. The training is offered at all levels and prepares young people to make informed financial choices.
