The US Ambassador bids farewell
The 18th US-Africa Business Summit, scheduled to take place in Mauritius at the end of July, was the focus of discussions between the US Ambassador to Mauritius and Seychelles, Henry V. Jardine, and the Mauritian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ritish Ramful, during his farewell visit to Port Louis on January 5.
The summit is expected to bring together approximately 3,000 participants, including African and American business leaders. According to Minister Ramful, the event is a strategic project for Mauritius and represents an opportunity to strengthen economic and trade ties with the United States.
During the meeting, Ritish Ramful highlighted the strong and long-standing relationship between Mauritius and the United States. He emphasized the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, particularly regarding the Chagos Archipelago, following the treaty governing this territory. Maritime security also remains an important area of collaboration for both countries.
For his part, Ambassador Jardine highlighted the United States’ contribution to economic initiatives, recalling the success of the 2024 Business Summit and expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming U.S.-Africa Summit.
The diplomat described his three-year term as an enriching experience. He noted the significant progress made, including the launch and ongoing construction of the new U.S. Embassy in Mauritius, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in security, governance, and institutional initiatives.
