A Vision Based on Long-Term Partnerships

Russia states its intention to strengthen its role as an economic partner of Madagascar and the African continent through a policy focused on supporting industrialization.

This approach reflects a stated desire to develop closer economic relations with African countries, emphasizing investment, infrastructure, and skills transfer.

According to Russian authorities, Africa now represents a strategic area for international cooperation. Moscow promotes a vision based on long-term partnerships, in which African countries could benefit from support in several key sectors, including energy, mining, agriculture, transportation, and manufacturing.

For Madagascar, this approach could open new opportunities in a context where the country seeks to accelerate its industrial development. Madagascar possesses significant natural resources and considerable economic potential, but faces challenges related to local processing of raw materials, a lack of infrastructure, and access to financing.

Russia states that its support will not be limited to resource exploitation but will also aim to encourage the creation of local value chains. The stated objective is to help partner countries develop their production capacities, strengthen their economic autonomy, and create more jobs.

However, this cooperation also raises questions. Analysts emphasize the importance for Madagascar and African countries of ensuring that international partnerships promote sustainable and balanced development. Foreign investment must, in particular, contribute to strengthening local skills and growing national economies.
