President Ramkalawan inaugurates 16 housing units in St Louis

Government Strengthens Housing Program

16 housing units welcomed their new residents on September 18th in Vilaz Waterloo, St. Louis, during a ceremony presided over by the President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan.

Government representatives, community members, and the new tenants participated in the handover. The ceremony featured cultural performances, including a poetry recital and a dance performance by students from La Rosière School, adding to the warm and friendly atmosphere.

During his speech, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Billy Rangasamy, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living conditions throughout the country. The Head of State emphasized the importance of housing in the nation’s social development.

The project, which will launch in mid-2023, comprises two blocks totaling 16 apartments: eight two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bedroom apartments. The development includes essential infrastructure, such as retaining walls, drainage, parking, and sewer connections, for a total estimated cost of SCR 16 million (USD 1,088,000).

The President congratulated all partners for their contribution and expressed his satisfaction at seeing 16 families gain access to modern and secure housing. He encouraged residents to maintain their homes and promote a good community spirit.

The ceremony continued with the handover of keys to the tenants, a vote of thanks, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, followed by a tour of the homes. Meanwhile, the government is moving forward with other housing projects across the country.
