23 new scholarship recipients for the 2024-2025 academic year
Since 2015, Meck Moroni has awarded 289 scholarships to support young high school graduates: 174 have continued their studies abroad and 115 at the national level.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, 23 new recipients have been selected. Among them, 16 will study in the Comoros with a monthly stipend of 50,000 Comorian francs (USD 118.91) **** for three years, while seven others will study abroad and receive 150,000 francs per month for the same period.
This initiative is part of the Twamaya ya mawudu program, launched nine years ago, which rewards academic excellence and supports families in their children’s higher education. The ceremony, held on September 5 in Moroni, brought together several public and private figures.
During her speech, the Executive Director of Meck Moroni emphasized the role of scholarships as a lever for education and social development. She stated that adjustments and reorientations aim to improve the program’s impact on the local socioeconomic context.
Faridy Norbert, Chairman of the Board of Directors, explained that future scholarships must meet the country’s strategic needs. “This support will support not only university studies, but also technical and professional programs in priority sectors: sustainable agriculture, artisanal and industrial fisheries, improved livestock farming, digital technology, renewable energy, and crafts,” he stated. The Chairman of the Board added that the development of the Comoros must rely on the skills of young people and local resources.
The Legal Advisor of the University of the Comoros emphasized the rigor of the selection process. Each application was carefully analyzed to award scholarships to the most deserving candidates, while respecting the financial limits of Meck Moroni.
