Tourism development: Reunion outlines its strategy

Collaboration between the State and the Region at the Heart of Discussions

Tourism development in Réunion, a key concern for both the State and the Region, was the focus of discussions between Regional President Huguette Bello and Nathalie Delattre, Minister Delegate for Tourism, on September 1, 2025, at the Regional Council.

The meeting served to strengthen the tourism industry and make it a driver of economic growth and sustainable employment. The Minister welcomed the creation of the Regional Tourism Committee, the result of the merger of Réunion Island Tourism (IRT) and the Réunion Tourism Federation (FRT). “This new structure will coordinate actions and improve the visibility of the destination, while facilitating its international promotion,” she added.

Huguette Bello emphasized the regional management of ERDF funds to continue the development of the region and meet local needs. The latter also emphasized the need for close collaboration between local authorities, the government, and industry stakeholders to strengthen the sector.

The President highlighted the island’s exceptional assets. “We have mountains and beaches. Reunion Island is France and Europe in the southern hemisphere. We are working to welcome 600,000 tourists per year,” she declared.
