Significant Progress for Access to Basic Social Services
A major milestone has been reached in the development of road infrastructure in Madagascar with the completion of the rehabilitation work on National Route 12A (RNT 12A).
Long considered one of the most difficult roads to access in the country, this strategic route connecting several localities in the Southeast now opens up new economic and social opportunities for the local communities.
The work has significantly improved traffic conditions on this route, which serves, in particular, the Anosy and Atsimo-Atsinanana regions. For many years, the poor condition of the road made travel particularly difficult, especially during the rainy season. Residents, transporters, and economic operators faced significant delays and high transportation costs.
Thanks to this rehabilitation, the mobility of people and goods should see a marked improvement. Agricultural producers will be able to transport their harvests to markets more easily, thus reducing losses due to access difficulties. Trade between the region’s various localities is also expected to increase, fostering local economic growth.
Beyond its economic impact, the modernization of National Route 12A represents significant progress in accessing basic social services. Communities will benefit from improved access to healthcare facilities, schools, and administrative services. Emergency interventions can also be carried out more quickly when needed.
The authorities emphasize that this project is part of a national strategy aimed at opening up remote regions and strengthening connectivity between the country’s various development hubs. The completion of National Route 12A is therefore a major step forward for Madagascar’s territorial integration and demonstrates the government’s commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure to support development.
