Peanuts: China reopens its market in Madagascar

Agreement Signed Between the Two Countries

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty and the Chinese Embassy in Madagascar, paving the way for the resumption of Malagasy peanut exports to the Chinese market.

The ceremony took place this Monday, May 18, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Anosy. Madagascar now meets the necessary health standards to resume exporting its agricultural products to China, a significant market for the country.

The memorandum establishes a strict control system for the production chain. The Ministry of Agriculture oversees the crops through its plant protection specialists. These specialists monitor the development of the plantations and ensure compliance with health standards at each stage, culminating in final inspections that conform to Chinese standard GB 2761.

The authorities of both countries aim to strengthen agricultural cooperation to support Malagasy producers and facilitate the sale of their products on international markets.
