A Regional Investment for Sustainable Mobility

A new bus station was inaugurated on December 22nd in Plaine des Cafres. Located in the heart of the region, this modern infrastructure aims to facilitate travel for residents while promoting soft, sustainable, and accessible mobility.

The station serves 13 bus lines with over 90 daily departures. It features ten platforms, pedestrian areas, rest areas, a cycle path, parking for people with reduced mobility, and drop-off zones. All these amenities have been designed to make journeys more convenient and safe.

The main building includes ticket counters, a waiting room, a video surveillance system, and seven restrooms, two of which are accessible to people with reduced mobility. This infrastructure offers travelers a comfortable space to wait and make their connections.

This project was financed by the Réunion Region, with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which covered 80% of the works, amounting to €1.1 million. The initiative is part of a strategy aimed at rebalancing territorial development and promoting more environmentally friendly transport.

For Fabrice Hoarau, regional councilor in charge of sustainable mobility, this station marks progress in how we approach mobility in our region. “Residents will now have access to a modern and functional infrastructure that facilitates connections while addressing important environmental challenges,” he stated.

Beyond its practical aspect, the new station helps reduce the carbon footprint, encourages public transport, and improves connectivity in the Plaine des Cafres area. With this new facility, residents now have a modern, convenient, and environmentally friendly transport hub, a symbol of Réunion’s ambition for smoother and more sustainable mobility.
