National information services agency: Appointment of DG and DGA

The President’s Office has confirmed the reappointment of Mr. Gerard Govinden as the Director-General of the National Information Services Agency and the appointment of Mr. Christopher Laurence as the new Deputy Director-General. Both appointments are effective from July 3, 2023, for five years, by the provisions of the 2010 National Information Services Agency Act.

Mr. Govinden’s journey with the National Information Services Agency began in 1992, initially as a sports journalist. Over the years, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication and leadership, holding various positions within the Agency. His tenure culminated in his appointment as CEO on February 1, 2018. Mr. Govinden’s reappointment as CEO comes on the recommendation of the newly constituted board of directors of the National Information Services Agency.

Mr. Laurence brings a wealth of expertise to his new role as Deputy Director-General. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems with a specialization in systems analysis and design from UNITEC University in Auckland, New Zealand, Mr. Laurence boasts extensive experience across diverse fields such as business analysis, project management, banking, marketing, office management, product management, operations management, and customer relations. His appointment reflects the Agency’s commitment to harnessing top talent for its leadership positions.
