New Equipment Soon to Be Operational
A second baggage carousel will be installed at Seychelles International Airport. This decision aims to reduce frequent delays during multiple arrivals and marks the first step in a major modernization project at the airport.
President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a follow-up meeting on August 28, 2025, to review the progress of the project. The meeting followed a visit held on July 31, during which the technical committee committed to proposing concrete solutions.
At the table were Vice President Ahmed Afif, the Minister of Transport, the Principal Secretary for Civil Aviation, Ports and Maritime Affairs, as well as the Chief Executive Officers of the Seychelles Airport Authority (SAA), the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), and the Seychelles International Airport (SIA). Representatives from several ministries, technical experts, the finance team, and project planners also took part in the discussions.
The discussions highlighted significant progress. The overall project aims to provide the country with a modern, functional, and sustainable airport capable of supporting its development for the next thirty years. Speakers emphasized the need to comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, optimize the use of available space, and anticipate growth in passenger traffic while ensuring operational safety.
The Head of State praised the collective approach adopted. According to him, the collaboration between technicians, financial experts, and public authorities provides a solid foundation for moving the project forward. “The objective is to provide the nation with an airport that meets international standards and is capable of meeting future needs,” he stated.
Pending the complete transformation, the committee is exploring rapid measures to improve the passenger experience. The second baggage carousel is part of this approach, and other adjustments will follow to streamline passenger flow.
