Veezit in Reunion: Mayotte reveals its traditional know-how

A responsible approach to reveal true wealth

The Veezit international tourism and leisure fair, held in Réunion, provided a wonderful showcase for Mayotte’s local talents and products.

While the event brings together professionals from across the Indian Ocean region each year, the Sud Tourisme office chose to highlight the human and cultural richness of the southern part of the island.

For Sud Tourisme, it’s not just about promoting the already well-known landscapes and beaches, but above all about promoting a responsible approach, centered on encounters and sharing. “We want to show another side of Mayotte, a human-scale experience based on traditional skills and local culture” emphasizes Nilda Chadhouli, Communications Officer.

This approach comes to life with the presence of three Mayotte representatives, including Sandati, an artisan and member of the “Shingo Maman de Bandrélé” association. She came to showcase her traditional salt, harvested between beaches and mangroves. This natural product, based on an ancestral process, is recognized for its benefits, particularly for people suffering from hypertension.

For Sandati, the Veezit trade show is a rare opportunity to export this local product beyond Mayotte and raise awareness among a wider audience about the importance of preserving this expertise. “Everyone here comes to buy our salt,” she says proudly.
