Tourism in Madagascar : Beginning of Whale Season

Underwater experience to cherish

On June 25, Cétamada officially launched the 2024 whale season at the Sainte-Marie Tourism Office. To commemorate this occasion, an exceptional day was organized on the island.

In the morning, a whale-watching excursion was arranged to admire these majestic cetaceans in their natural environment. The day concluded with a conference on the essential role of whales in the marine ecosystem and the conservation actions taken by companies.

Whales are present in Sainte-Marie from June to September, making it the perfect time to plan a tourist getaway and experience a memorable encounter with these giants of the sea. The implementation of the 2023 interministerial decree concerning marine megafauna represents a major victory for biodiversity and ecotourism. This new decree now regulates the observation of marine mammals, fish, and sea turtles.

Madagascar offers an incredible underwater experience. The island is also home to exceptional marine megafauna, consisting of captivating marine mammals. The stars of the show include 10 species of baleen whales, also known as mysticetes, including humpback whales and blue whales.
