Véronique Herminie receives delegations from African Supreme Courts

Regional Exchanges on Social Issues and Cooperation at State House

On the sidelines of the Southern and Eastern African Supreme Courts Forum (SEACJF), the First Lady of the Republic of Seychelles, Véronique Herminie, hosted the spouses of Supreme Court Presidents from several countries in the region at State House.

This courtesy visit took place in a friendly atmosphere, with discussions on social and community initiatives. Among the participants were Justice Naomi Shivute of Namibia, Mwiza Malila of Zambia, Eunice Malaba of Zimbabwe, and Judy Tirant of Seychelles. The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences from the Office of the First Lady and the charitable initiatives undertaken by the guests in their respective countries.

The representatives from Zambia and Namibia presented their involvement in national spouses’ committees. These committees support programs for the well-being of women and children and contribute to the development of local communities. The discussions revealed a shared commitment to strengthening social initiatives in the region.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for cultural exchange. Participants discussed the music, cuisine, and traditions of their respective countries. They also mentioned renowned natural sites, such as Victoria Falls, shared between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and invited the First Lady to visit them. In turn, these officials praised the beauty of the country, particularly its beaches and well-protected green spaces. As a token of appreciation, each guest received a small replica of the giant tortoise, the national symbol of Seychelles.

Furthermore, a delegation of eleven Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts was also received by the Vice President of Seychelles, Sebastien Pillay. This meeting was part of the forum held from April 22 to 24, 2026, under the theme “Judicial Leadership and Innovation.” The objective is to strengthen cooperation between judicial systems and promote the use of technology in justice.
