Women’s Economic Initiatives Supported
A grant of 20 million ariary (US$4,450) has been awarded to the VMTAA association (Active Women in Rural Areas of the West) to support local initiatives in the Vakinankaratra region.
This funding aims to support income-generating activities for rural women and strengthen food security in several localities. The announcement was made on March 9, 2026, at a ceremony held at the Ambohitsorohitra Palace. At this event, the government presented financial assistance to several associations and projects led by local stakeholders in the region.
Thanks to this support, the VMTAA association plans to develop agricultural activities and strengthen economic initiatives led by rural women. The goal is to improve their incomes while contributing to local food production.
Another association is also among the beneficiaries. The FAMI (Fanilo Miampita) association received 33 million ariary to implement social projects in the commune of Betafo. This funding will be used, in particular, to build community housing and establish essential infrastructure for the population. The installation of a water supply point is also planned to improve access to water for residents.
Furthermore, the Vakinankaratra region received 10 million ariary for the maintenance and improvement of the road leading to Ambano. Repair and rehabilitation work will facilitate traffic flow and support local economic activities, especially the transport of agricultural products to markets.
This project is in line with the commitments announced by the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Michael Randrianirina, during his visit to Antsirabe two months ago. The Head of State had then mentioned the establishment of financial support for projects led by young people and associations working to improve the living conditions of the population.
Through this program, the authorities aim to support several development priorities, including food security, women’s empowerment, and the improvement of rural infrastructure.
