The new generation takes the stage
On October 17 and 18, the Chiconi Plateau will vibrate to the sound of Mahorese traditions on the occasion of the 19ᵉ edition of the Milatsika Festival.
For almost two decades, this event has attracted amateurs and curious people, mixing local influences and sounds from elsewhere, to celebrate the cultural richness of the Indian Ocean.
The first evening promises to be a musical journey through the islands. Loko Gasy, Malagasy band, revisits the antsabeko while maintaining its collective and festive aspect. Sarera, a local formation, draws on gaboussi and dzendzé to propose sounds that tell the story of Mayotte. The committed reggae of the Mwalim Klan and the Afro-Latin rhythms of El Gato Negro enrich the programming, illustrating the international opening of the festival.
The next day, on Saturday, October 18, the youth will take center stage. The brothers Mouss and Hakim will merge rock, funk and Mediterranean sounds, while Younger Spirit will bet on an energetic blues-rock. The Comorians of Watoro will present a festive afro-blues, recalling the links between the islands. On the local scene, Subo SKL is distinguished by a mixture of hip-hop, dancehall and African influences, and Chaldi highlights the Mahorese culture through his compositions and his music videos, the fruit of a passion developed since childhood.
For Del Zid, Artistic Director, Milatsika is a place of meeting and exchange: “Traditions and contemporary trends intersect there, creating a sound and visual mosaic that reflects the diversity of our world” he announced.
Since its creation in 2007, the festival has welcomed a varied audience every year. In 2023, about 1,300 spectators participated in the concerts and workshops. This edition continues to promote local talents while opening the stage to artists from the Indian Ocean and elsewhere.
Beyond music, Milatsika 2025 also offers workshops, discussions and artistic installations, allowing the public to get actively involved and explore different forms of creation. The organization also affirms its commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment, confirming its position as a major and responsible cultural event.
