The Comoros are involved in African climate governance

The Comoros at the Forefront in Addis Ababa

The Comoros is participating in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the African Risk Capacity (ARC), which is being held from April 8 to 10, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Alongside 38 other African countries, the Comoros aims to defend the interests of states most exposed to the effects of climate change.

The objective of this meeting is to better prepare African countries for disasters. Discussions are focusing on three main points: strengthening climate resilience, improving insurance systems to cope with crises, and enabling Africa to manage humanitarian emergencies itself.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Security (DGSC), this participation allows the Comoros to strengthen its position within African climate risk insurance mechanisms. This initiative also aims to develop cooperation with other countries and to propose solutions adapted to the realities of island states.

The conference brings together political leaders, representatives of the African Union, and development partners. This meeting also highlights Ethiopia’s efforts in combating climate change, particularly through its “Green Legacy” initiative.

This session is expected to lead to important decisions for better managing climate and health risks in Africa. During the discussions, Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, encouraged countries to contribute more financially to reduce their dependence on external aid.

Through this meeting, the Comoros reaffirms its commitment to actively participating in African solutions to climate challenges.
