Celebrating Long-Term Careers in Education
The 35th Annual Teacher Awards Ceremony took place on September 2 at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort. President Wavel Ramkalawan presided over the event.
The event coincided with International Teachers’ Day and aimed to celebrate dedicated educators. This year, UNESCO’s theme was the global teacher shortage and the urgent need to attract new talent to deliver quality education. The ceremony highlighted teachers who have dedicated 25 years or more to training young people.
The event also honored those retiring after distinguished careers. Marie Esther received a special tribute for her 46 years of service in teaching, a symbol of dedication and passion for training future generations.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Justin Valentin, opened the ceremony by expressing his gratitude to the mentors and trainers. The latter emphasized the need to support the profession and strengthen its attractiveness. According to him, “educators build society by guiding children, respecting diversity, and meeting the specific needs of each student.”
The Head of State congratulated the honored educators and expressed the nation’s gratitude. Ramkalawan extended his warm wishes to the retirees and encouraged society to value the work of teachers. “Your dedication and passion for education shape the future of our nation,” he said.
The ceremony also featured testimonials from educators and students, musical performances, and poetry readings. These moments provided an opportunity to celebrate the daily work of educators and share their experiences.
