A meeting took place on July 7, 2025, in Port Louis between Lutchmanah Pentiah, Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, and Jean Thomas Genave, Acting Chief Executive of Rodrigues.
This meeting focused on the situation of public employees in Rodrigues and ways to better support them. Since his appointment at the end of May, the Acting Chief Executive has defined several priorities, including compliance with regulations, improving public services, strengthening teamwork, and the well-being of the island’s civil servants.
Significant needs have been identified, particularly in terms of training, skills development, temporary assignments in Mauritius for certain human resources employees, and the acceleration of pending service plans.
The Minister of Public Service welcomed these initiatives while recalling the challenges raised by the General Employees’ Association. The need to ensure fair and equitable recruitment and promotions in the civil service was strongly emphasized. The desire to set an example in building an efficient and equitable administration was affirmed for both Mauritius and Rodrigues.
The national strategic framework developed by the Ministry will be implemented taking into account local specificities while ensuring consistency with national objectives. Furthermore, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute will soon launch flexible, part-time diploma programs in partnership with international universities. These programs will lead to recognized certifications.
